| Artist Statement |
Virtually, artists create something out of nothing, which when completed, will figuratively speaking; have a life of its own. The "hollowboys" are the sculptures that I have given life to. Having had their genesis in 1995 as caricatures of birds, these individuals evolved into their current personalities in 1998. These "hollowboys" display my cynical sense of humor, and I suppose my early comic book and cartoon influences.
The "hollowboys" mirror the duality of man. Fashioned from clay and glazes, these characters retain a closer connection to the earth than other mediums. Their appearance and bearing embody the feral qualities of the social order without attaching any morality limitations. We seem to have forgotten that we are just organisms on this planet, consequently everything we are or do is natural, whether or not our actions/inactions fall within the boundaries of political correctness. The hollowboys are my interpretation of this philosophy. |
